Train reservation system in India made us aware of RAC/WL/PNR and many such terms.
Since, the largest public carrier of India is none other than the great Indian Railways. Train is the most preferred mode of travel by the Indian public, on an average over 2 crore persons uses the trains every day to reach their desired destinations. Not only the locals but the foreign tourists also like this mode to cruise through this broad and well connected network.
Over the time the systems and technology at Indian Railways is also improving significantly. The organization behind all this is CRIS , set up by Govt. of India to provide IT services to the Railways. CRIS is performing it’s duties with utmost perfection in various forms by maintaining internal operational systems to passenger level tools like the ticket Reservation System of this big organization. The online ticket reservation system is further managed by the other company of Indian Government i;e IRCTC.
Due to huge demand of train tickets, it is a normal scenario where tickets are not easily available with a “confirmed” status in reservation classes like Sleeper Berth & Air Conditioned ones . Most of the busy routes are already over booked when the reservation starts 90 days prior to the date of commencement of journey. With in a few days it starts showing RAC(Reservation at Cancellation) or WL(Waiting List) when we check for seat availability. But still we book RAC/WL status tickets with a hope of securing a berth due to cancellation of bookings made by travel agent network, touts and a small chunk of normal passengers who cancel journeys due to some personal reasons. Now the biggest task is to keep checking the ticket PNR status on railway systems over internet and telephones to get the current status till the time it is “confirmed”.
The legit way to check the PNR status is to go over the Railway site http://www.indianrail.gov.in/pnr_Enq.html or by calling them on 139xxxxxxxxxx (xxxxxxxxxx is 10 digit PNR number). But in case you are in a state where you don’t have enough time and resources to check the same again and again???
I think most of us always keep our fingers crossed till the reservation chart is prepared exactly before 4 hours of scheduled departure of the train on journey date.To get an eleventh hour change in status of your PNR is crucial.
What if you starts getting FREE automated messages in your text inbox of your mobile phone???
Sounds good, but how??? .
Simply go to http://www.mypnrstatus.com/ and register your 10 digit ticket PNR number and 10 digit mobile number alternatively you can SMS ‘MYPNR <Your 10 DIGIT PNR NUMBER>’ TO 9220092200.
This is only needed to get Free SMS over your registered mobile number to get the status updates of your ticket and train timings as well.
However this newly launched website is still in Beta stage , but the response is really good as of date. Hopefully the brains behind MyPNRStatus are working towards improvement of this useful site as there are few technical glitches.
